The recent news of the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protest in Beijing reminded me of the story that Camellia told me, how she as an enthusiastic 19 year old university student, decided that she, with others from her university wanted to join the protest. Early that morning they all set off for Beijing on the train, a journey of some 10 hours. About halfway into the trip, the train was stopped by police and the students were ordered off and put on the next train back to Kunming.... was fate playing a part that day for Camellia? It is estimated that 3/4,000 students were shot dead by the police on that day!
