My friend Camellia

I always think about how Camellia and I met …. it was 15 years ago at the supermarket. I had arrived in England four months prior, at the time I had no friends who spoke my language. I was waiting on her till, and when I saw her I was greeted with the warmest smile and the most caring eyes, she was looking at Yuli and said ‘I have a daughter who is of a similar age’. Thus we arranged to meet, and have been friends ever since. When our daughters where young we often met up, taking them to lots of activities and creating an inseparable bond between us. It was the first time I had met someone with experiences of settling into a new country similar to mine, which to me is one of the main reasons why me and Camellia became so close but our biggest common interest was the love of our daughters. Camellia often told me her stories of her childhood, time spent living in China and the story of how she created her successful business. I always loved to hear about these stories, as it allowed me to create a deeper connection with her. My time spent in England has memories of Camellia scattered through it, and although she is not here now she will always remain in my heart, and the hearts of all the people she loved. Throughout my life I have never seen a person as resilient or positive as Camellia, she was a truly remarkable mother and women. We will always love you and miss you.
